About Osteria Polpo

Osteria Polpo is for people who crave the unique flavours and authentic hospitality of north Italy’s Veneto region.

From the classic cicchetti of the coast of Venice to the hearty risottos and pastas of the Veneto countryside, every dish is created with the same care and warmth with which it is served.

“Bon mangiare. Bon vino. Bon amici.”

We founded Osteria Polpo on the philosophy that food is not so much hospitality as pleasure.

That your visit should be an experience of good food, good drink and good friends.

When you walk in the doors of our East Terrace venue, you will be warmly greeted and welcomed into an atmosphere that closely represents an authentic North Italian experience.

Bringing Venetian food to Adelaide city

In the north of Italy, Veneto is a region of contrasts. From the breathtaking dolomite alps down to the Adriatic Sea and the canal city of Venice.

Here, good food is more than an indulgence, it’s sustenance. Sustenance for family, for business, for living and life.

Venetian cuisine originates from its centuries-old reputation as a trading hub. The street food cicchetti started from the merchants who would eat standing up while bartering over spices, gold, and wine.

From the dramatic landscapes of Veneto, we’re excited to bring an authentic Venetian experience to the parklands of East Terrace, Adelaide.

Paul Serafin, Founder

Osteria Polpo was founded by Paul Serafin, a second-generation Venetian who has brought his love of authentic Italian cuisine to Adelaide.

“I grew up where food was a passion, a discipline, and a way of life. We were brought up having a three course meal every night without fail.”

Wanting to share the rich culinary heritage of the Veneto region, Paul and his team have created a space where people can gather, explore, and connect over exceptional food and drink.

Paul is well-known in Adelaide’s hospitality scene, having founded and run many hotels, cafes and restaurants that are popular with locals today.

His approach: food is a serious business, but not to be taken too seriously. It is there to create an overall experience of enjoyment, where allegria (good company and fun) are equally important.

We make sure it’s an experience you receive every time you visit, whether you’re standing at the bar having un ombra e un ciacola (a drink and a chat) while eating cicchetti or enjoying a hearty meal in the dining room.

Osteria – a gathering place

Osteria is an Italian word for an eatery that exudes old-fashioned hospitality and rustic charm.

Traditionally, it was quite similar to a bar – a place where locals gathered to play cards and drink wine. Over the years, osterias have transitioned to eateries where you can expect food cooked with fresh ingredients and heart.
